The Crane in Art

Cranes are very auspicious birds in both Japanese and Chinese culture and many Japanese homes will have a Chinese picture of Cranes. I have a number of these larger scrolls as well as some smaller scrolls with Cranes

I have searched China and Japan for scrolls of excellent quality. These are for the Tokonoma or your home. They range is size from 12 inches high to scrolls that are over six feet in length.

These larger scrolls are absolutely beautiful and include some antique scrolls. The more modern scrolls have been mounted by a third generation professional scroll mounting artist at a famous Art University.

Each large scroll comes in a special silk covered Scroll box to protect the scroll when not on a wall..

The Snow Cranes
These are Medium size and are £75 including Box. Two or three Cranes with white mountains in the background falling snow over the trees. On a white silk Scroll.. Cranes mate for life. A beautiful gift for a newly married couple-    a superb wedding gift.

Linyuan is a famous artist from Changsha, Hunan Province, He graduated from Shanghai College. Although the subject of his paintings cover a wide-range he is a master at painting the Crane. His paintings are vivid and colourful, and contain the very pure essence of the  Chinese style. He is very popular in China and Japan.  This scroll was created in 2000.

This is a magnificent scroll fully mounted on silk with lacquered hardwood ends.

Painting size is 54 inches long by 27 inches wide

Scroll size is: 74 inches long

We have a number of large size Crane paintings on Scrolls and these range from

Please note that we can make designs based on your own suggestions but these will have to be paid for in advance. Suitable designs could be your own Bonsai in the mountains. All designs are impressions and not detailed portraits. Delivery time will be around three months. As you can see from these pages, our artists work is very attractive.

Special  Four Seasons sets. Each scroll in the set of four represents the season, Winter, Spring , Summer and Autumns.

The scroll features a pair of Cranes. Cranes mate for life. I truly  liked this idea and thought that creating the Four Seasons would be a nice way to depict loyalty to each other in a partnership or marriage.

My friend Shu Zheng Xu, (www.potsforbonsai.com) originally gave me a beautiful scroll of cranes which takes pride of place in my home and that got me started on looking for others. I also identified a need for scrolls for both Tokonoma and Bonsai display and decided to have a range of subjects painted to reflect both the seasons and feeling of the Bonsai or Suiseki on display. With the growth of interest in Shohin , many of the Zen and other small scrolls I have had made are between 18 inches ling to 48 inches long. The average being 24 inches. These are suitable for your home as well of course. I have also made large display scrolls up to 6 feet tall. Wonderful for an Executives office, stairways and larger rooms.
